HIDDEN TREASURE

There is a place, where I once lived,
In joy and harmony.
And I loved it until I became a man,
And then it slipped away.
And now I'm thinking of it,
And the times of joy it brought.
And it seems like it was yesterday,
When dreams could all come true.
Oh how I miss that special place,
Where I lived when I was young.
And the place I went to be alone,
And think of things to come.
Quiet brought me down to earth,
And put me in a trance.
The silence of the mountains,
The song that no one knew.
Tadpoles and lily ponds,
Caves left unexplored.
This was my childhood, and my youth,
Oh how I miss it so.
The smell of licorice, and walnut groves,
Moss growing on a tree.
Honey suckle and sassafras,
A black snake slipping away.
Cowboy coffee, and fishing ponds,
Diving from the trees.
I'd search and search for buried treasure;
How I knew that it was there.
But the treasure that I never saw,
Was my home, that's now so dear.
